Shark Days At Monterey Bay Aquarium Allows You To Meet Jim Toomey - Sherman's Lagoon

Monterey, CA - Explore the oceans most mysterious and misunderstood species with experts who care for them during “Shark Days” at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on February 21 and 22. The fun-filled weekend will feature special shark and bat ray feedings, auditorium programs and crafts for children.

The aquarium will also have a special demonstration and book signing by “Sherman’s Lagoon” guru, Jim Toomey. The weekend celebration includes interactive theatrical performances and bilingual sea otter, penguin and kelp forest feeding sessions. Kids can download a special iron-on “Shark Days” t-shirt design, created by Toomey (www.montereybayaquarium.org/vi/vi_events/vi_events_sharks.asp); kids wearing shirts with this design will receive a special prize during “Shark Days” at the event information booth.

Presentations during “Shark Days” will dispel fear-filled myths that surround the magnificent species and explain the grave threats facing sharks globally. 

“Shark Days” programs and activities include (a full schedule will be available at the event):

· Bat ray feedings at the Bat Ray Touch Pool.

· Bilingual (English & Spanish) sea otter feeding and training session at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday only.

· Bilingual (English & Spanish) kelp forest feeding at 4 p.m. on Sunday only.

· Bilingual (English & Spanish) penguin training and feeding session at 3 p.m. on Sunday only.

· “Sharks I Have Known” presentations on both days in the auditorium.

· Meet a shark aquarist on Saturday and on Sunday, location to be determined.

· “Working with White Sharks” presentations on both days in the auditorium.

· “Tagging of Pacific Predators,” a short video program on research efforts occurring in the Pacific ocean, on both days in the auditorium.

· “Empty Ocean, Empty Nets,” a short video program on the ocean’s health, on both days in the auditorium.

· “Chief of the Reef” theatrical performances in the Discovery Labs.

· Jim Toomey presentation in the auditorium; followed with a book signing by the illustrator.

· A shark craft room on Sunday in the Discovery Labs.
