Cleveland, OH - Any time the temperature hits 32 degrees or below in January, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will declare a Polar Bear Day and offer half-off the already discounted admission rates.

From January 2 through 31, Polar Bear Day admission is just $3.50 per person, $2.50 for kids ages 2 to 11 and still free for children under 2 and Zoo members.

To confirm a Polar Bear Day at the Zoo, visit clemetzoo.com, call (216) 661-6500 or listen to 107.3 The Wave from 6 to 10 a.m. daily.

Coming to the Zoo on a chilly day doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable. Heated shuttle rides through the Zoo are offered at no charge, and “hot spots” include The RainForest, where it’s always a balmy 80 degrees; the Primate, Cat & Aquatics Building; Wolf Wilderness; the GumLeaf Hideout and the Center for Zoological Medicine, where you can learn about how the Zoo cares for its animals and maybe even see an actual veterinary procedure in progress.

Plus, the Zoo’s cold-climate animals of Northern Trek -- such as bears, tigers and reindeer -- are much more active in the winter.

Northeast Ohio’s most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Discounted winter admission through March 31, 2009, is $7 per person, $5 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children under 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 77, 90 and 480.

To learn more, visit clemetzoo.com or call (216) 661-6500.

I think we should move on from having dolphins in captivity now - we all know this isn't good for them.

The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place.  The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite.  Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.  To learn more and see photos  taken by indigenous children in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, you can visit ninosdelaamazonia.org
