Asheboro, NC - The North Carolina Zoo will temporarily close its Forest Aviary and Africa Pavilion exhibits for routine winter maintenance beginning Nov. 3-7 for the Aviary and then Nov. 17-21 for the Pavilion.

The closings affect only the two exhibits, and all other zoo regions, exhibits and facilities will remain open as usual.

The yearly closings are necessary so that zoo staff can prune large trees, complete renovation and construction projects, and remove glass and caging within and around the two popular indoor exhibits.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Dept. of Environment & Natural Resources, William G. Ross Jr., Secretary; Michael F. Easley, Governor.

The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place.  The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite.  Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.  To learn more and see photos  taken by indigenous children in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, you can visit ninosdelaamazonia.org
