Paignton, UK - The Paignton Zoo is offering a big chocolate prize for young green inventors.
Plymouth and South West Co-op is donating a mouth-watering first prize in a children’s competition – a month’s supply of Fairtrade chocolate.
The “Young Green Solutions Inventor of the Year” competition has been launched by Paignton Zoo to get children to solve the environmental problems caused by grown-ups.
The winner will receive 30 bars of Fairtrade chocolate. In addition, Go Ape, the award-winning high-wire forest adventure people, are donating family tickets and there will be goodie bags and certificates, too.
Paignton Zoo, a registered charity, is holding its first Green Solutions Festival between Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th October. The fair will feature green products, green gadgets and gizmos, activities and competitions. The Young Green Solutions Inventor of the Year competition is an important part of the festival.
Zoo Marketing Manager Vicki Barnes said: “As an environmental park, we are keen to encourage young minds to come up with green solutions to environmental problems. There are lots of young people out there with bright ideas on how to sort out the environment. Our Green Solutions Festival is the place to prove it.”
Plymouth and South West Co-op Head of Marketing Sandra Everett said: “We recognise nature's limited capacity to generate resources and absorb waste and we are committed to continuing to look at ways to reduce our impact on the environment, so it is a real pleasure to be able to support the 'Young Green Solutions Inventor of the Year' by donating a month's supply of Fairtrade chocolate as part of the prize for the overall winner".
There are three categories – 8 to 12 years, 13 to 15 years and 16 to 18. All entries should be drawn on A3 paper with a 50 to 100 word description.
Paignton Zoo is a driving force in environmental best practice in the South West and has obtained its ISO 14001 accreditation, an international standard awarded to bodies demonstrating commitment to environmental improvement.
