Mystic Monkey & Feathers Wildlife Park Hand Raising White Lion's Offspring

Rust de Winter, South Africa - On Thursday-morning, 21 August 2008, Christa Saayman, the owner of Mystic Monkeys & Feathers Wild Animal Park discovered that her white female lion, Sahara, gave birth.

Christa Saayman's initial shock, when she realized that the male lion cub did not breathe, was replaced with an overwhelming sense of joy, when a second cub a female made her appearance.

Sahara who become mother for the very first time after 3 years didn’t know what to do with the newborn so Christa decided it would be in the cubs best interest to be taken away from her mother.

Shawu, the female cub, with her soft golden-brown hair is healthy and developing well. She is named after one of the big 7 elephants of the Kruger National Park, who got his name from the Shawu valley in the Park. This elephant was very big and enjoyed the company of humans. Hopefully little Shawu, who enjoys being stroked and petted, will take after Shawu the elephant and also develop a special love for human beings.

Shawu and her proud parents Sahara and Alex, who always create a feeling of disbelief to their size, strength and beauty can be visited at Mystic Monkeys & Feathers Wild Animal Park in the Rust de Winter area, just North of Pretoria. The park are open 7 days a week from 8:00-4:00.Mystic Monkeys and Feathers Wild Animal Park, with its beautiful gardens, waterfalls and koi dams has one of South Africa's largest collections of different species primates and exotic birds.
