Primate Zoo In Africa Needs Snake Identification Assistance

By Rudy Socha

Cameroon, Africa - I received a request from Kouamou Moise, Director of the Mvog-betsi Zoo, in Cameroon to help identify a snake they acquired. This zoo's exhibit focus is primates. The Director's English is not fluent and they have slow and intermittent internet service. It takes him about two days to respond to your email. Here is Kauamou’s original message and photos.

From: Kouamou Moise [mailto:kouamoumoise@yahoo.fr]

I would like to inform all the scientific community notably all the herpetology society that the Mvog-betsi Zoo in Yaounde - Cameroon holds a snake that has not yet been described.

Here are attached the photography and the eggs it has led.

Could you help me dispatching this message all over the world?

We are looking forward to host as many as possible researcher in this vein.

At this level of our Knowledge, the snake seems to be non venomous. I say this because I have not notice Long teeth in his mouth. But this must be confirm by a specialist since I am not one.

The snake is in the family of GRAYIA. It lives in calm weather. The one we have was found in a village called MBAMESSI in the North West Province but the first one discovered was a death specimen found in the mount MBAMBOUTOS in the Western Province of Cameroon. The length of the snake is one meter. The eggs were laid one month ago.
