The Virginia Aquarium Volunteer Hunt is On
Virginia Beach, VA - The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Volunteer League will host a “Volunteer Casting Call” Thursday, January 14, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. The session will begin in the Aquarium’s classroom in the Bay & Ocean Pavilion at 717 General Booth Boulevard. A brief presentation, which includes a volunteer recruitment film, will be followed by a tour of the Aquarium. Later when prospective adult volunteers are served light refreshments, they can ask questions and perhaps schedule a future interview with the volunteer resource manager. The team of 900 Virginia Aquarium volunteers works either behind the scenes for stores or exhibits, amidst the guests as docents, or even on the beach with stranded marine mammals or sea turtles. With the recent opening of Restless Planet, the Aquarium’s $25 million renovation, volunteers have a unique opportunity to become familiar with the new habitats. For more information, please call the volunteer resources office (757) 385-0274 or visit www.VirginiaAquarium.com Photo: These long-time volunteers, Sandy Wood and Holly Smith, jazzed up their uniform with red sequins and glitter so that when they volunteer as host staff for private events, such as parties and proms, they can sparkle along with the guests! I think we should move on from having dolphins in captivity now - we all know this isn't good for them.
The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place. The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite. Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.
