Antarctic ArtScience Art Show at New Zealand Marine Studies Centre and Westpac Aquarium
Dunedin, UK - Artist Claire Beynon has spent two seasons in Antarctica working collaboratively with US polar scientists. In this image-rich presentation, Claire will speak of her relationship to The White Continent, focusing in on the calligraphic beauty of ice and the hidden wonders of the microcosmic world beneath its surface. Claire will share some of the joys and challenges of inter-disciplinary collaboration, drawing parallels between image-making and scientific processes. Underwater film footage will illustrate various ArtScience projects embarked upon during the summers of 2005 and 2008. The audience will also be introduced to Notodendrodes antarctikos, the world’s smallest tree and the only micro-organism currently on our list of endangered species. One of Claire's Antarctic-inspired works will be auctioned on the night to raise funds for the Caselberg Trust. I think we should move on from having dolphins in captivity now - we all know this isn't good for them.
The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place. The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite. Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.
