Zoo Nights & Lights at Gladys Porter Zoo
Brownsville, TX - The Gladys Porter Zoo invites all Rio Grande Valley residents and visitors to come out and celebrate the holiday season at Zoo Nights & Lights on December 4th, 5th and 6th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy live performances from local bands and choirs while taking in the dazzling displays of more than 100 lighted animal and holiday fixtures along with 800 luminaria bags placed all around the Zoo grounds. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for some of the Zoo’s most infamous lighted attractions including the animated escaping gorillas as they appear to walk the roof tops and the chimpanzees climbing the palm trees. At the arts and crafts show, children can have their picture taken with Santa Claus; while parents browse for gifts. AT the same time at the Kids’ Korner, children can decorate a gingerbread cookie or make a unique holiday craft at the Zoo’s Education Department booth. Also, it wouldn’t be Zoo Nights & Lights if there wasn’t going to be plenty of hot chocolate and churros! Valley residents and visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend. The event is designed to allow for a break from the stress of the Holiday Season. Zoo Nights & Lights is one of the most celebrated events by Zoo staff, engaging all in the Holiday spirit. Admission is $2.50 per person, or free with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots campaign. Zoo members get in free with their membership cards. Tickets are available now for pre-sale or can be purchased at the gate on each night of the event. Zoo Nights & Lights is sponsored by NewsCenter 23 and Clear Channel Radio. I think we should move on from having dolphins in captivity now - we all know this isn't good for them.
The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place. The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite. Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.
