Akron, OH - On November 1, 2009, the Akron Zoo will begin their winter season with a change in hours and admission. From November 1, 2009 - April 30, 2010 the zoo will be open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. During this time admission will be reduced to $6.00 per person.

The majority of the zoo’s animals will be viewable during the winter months. Most of the animals that cannot handle cold weather have indoor exhibits that make them viewable year-round. The zoo will also allow visitors to feed the penguins on the weekends during winter hours when temperatures are 40 degrees or below at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $3.00 at the Welcome Center.

The Akron Zoo will be closed the following days this winter season: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The Akron Zoo, which is home to over 700 animals from around the world, is open 361 days a year. Winter hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and admission is $6.00 per person and parking is $2.00.

The Akron Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you, and a better future for all living things. With its more than 200 accredited members, AZA is a leader in global wildlife conservation, and your link to helping animals in their native habitats.
