Taste of Dubuque to Benefit National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium

Mon, 7/14/2008 - 6:01 PM

The 13th annual Dubuque County Historical Society’s Taste of Dubuque is moving to a Saturday for 2008. The Taste has been traditionally held on a Wednesday night. The party, billed as fun for the family, will be held in the Port of Dubuque at the corner of 5th and Bell Streets on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Plenty of exciting entertainment has been planned for this year’s event with live music happening on two stages. The Chicago Rhythm & Blues Kings will headline the festival; other bands performing include Wicked Liz & The Belly Swirls, ochOsol, and Denny Garcia.  The Kids Corner will feature various games and family entertainment including an inflatable playground, a comedic juggler, martial arts and dancing demonstrations, and an appearance by children’s character “Dora.”

The Taste of Dubuque provides the perfect opportunity to sample some of the city’s best food.  Festival goers can also take part in judging to name a winning food at this year’s event. Balloting for the “People’s Choice Award” will be available from 1 to 7 p.m. And new to this year’s Taste is Lil’ Taste with vendors offering $1.00 sample size portions of their food item from 2 to 3 p.m. Also beginning at 2 p.m., a representative from Goose Island Brewery will give a presentation Cooking with Beer featuring three local chefs.

To help with any parking problems, visitors may park downtown and take free trolley rides provided by Fountain Park Trolleys of Dubuque.  Trolleys will be picking up all day between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. at the following locations: 5th & Iowa, 7th & Iowa, and 3rd and Main Streets. The Trolleys will take festival goers directly to the front gate of the event site.  Guests will receive a Burger King coupon just for riding.

Admission to the Taste of Dubuque is free; however, the Dubuque County Historical Society will be accepting donations at the admission gate. All proceeds will benefit the Mathias Ham House Historic Site, Ryan House, Old Jail Museum, National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium and the National Rivers Hall of Fame — properties operated and maintained by the Dubuque County Historical Society.

Word Oceans Day - June 8 Thu, 6/4/2009 - 11:58 AM — The Ocean Project

And don't forget to "Wear Blue and Tell Two"

Another great way to celebrate World Oceans Day is to wear blue in honor of the ocean and tell people two things they likely don't know about the ocean and two ways they can take action. For more Information check out this website:
