Take a Flashlight Safari at Clyde Peeling's Reptiland
Allenwood, PA - Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland, Route 15 in Allenwood will be hosting its annual Flashlight Safari on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 16th, 17th and 18th, 2009. Flashlight Safari lets visitors explore nature’s night shift. “Nature works around the clock. When the animals of the day shift retire, their nocturnal counterparts take over and a completely different work emerges,” said Chad Peeling, the zoo’s Operations Manager. “Reptiles are some of the most efficient nocturnal predators and what better way to explore their work than at night when the animals are most active?” Visitors should bring their flashlight for this Halloween adventure because it’s lights out for you, as well as the animals. Reptiland’s indoor exhibit complex allows for comfortable viewing of its collection of nearly fifty species of reptiles and amphibians in any weather. Special live shows will feature a giant Indian fruit bat, great horned owl, rat, kinkajou, scorpion, alligator and rattlesnake and focuses on echolation, night vision, and other nocturnal adaptations. Reptiland’s professional zookeepers will demonstrate how an emperor scorpion glows under blacklight, and explain why alligator eyes reflect in the beam of your flashlight. Flashlight Safari offers visitors a chance to come face to face with a tarantula and even touch some less-loved members of the animal kingdom including cockroaches and an alligator!
