Brooklyn's Biggest Baby Boy Turn One
This marks the first birthday of a baby walrus in the New York Aquarium’s 112 year history. Only ten such rare births have occurred in any aquarium with only five surviving past the first year. At birth, Akituusaq weighed in at 115 pounds and has gained plenty of weight.
Pacific walrus mom, Kulusiq, will be accompanying her “little” guy in their Sea Cliffs habitat to celebrate his first birthday with a custom made ice cake. Photos are by: J.L. Maher/WCS |

The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place. The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite. Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.
