Toledo, OH - The Toledo Zoo is pleased to announce that Dr. Chris Hanley has been named the Zoo’s Chief Veterinarian. Prior to accepting the position of Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Hanley had been the Zoo’s Associate Veterinarian since 2006. Dr. Hanley received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Following two years in emergency medicine, he spent a year as the avian and exotics intern at the University of Georgia and then completed a zoological medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, Milwaukee County Zoo, and International Crane Foundation. He passed his boards and became a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine in 2006. According to the Zoo’s Executive Director, Dr. Anne Baker, “After a nationwide search, Dr. Hanley was selected from a pool of seven candidates. Of all those candidates, Dr. Hanley was the only interviewee who was Board Certified in Exotic Animal Medicine. He’s already demonstrated an amazing level of expertise in his time with us, and we look forward to working with him for a long time to come.” The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.
