Torquay, UK - Two local children have taken starring roles in a radio commercial for a local conservation charity after winning a competition.

Living Coasts in Torquay ran the competition at this year’s Devon County Show. Entrants were recorded at the Heart FM tent. The prize was a chance to record the charity’s new summer radio commercial.

The winners were Chloe de Almeida-Murch from Exeter and Coral Wakeling from Galmpton near Brixham.

The commercial was written by top ad agency RH Advertising of Exeter and recorded at the Heart FM studios in Exeter. The aim is to get across the sheer variety of species to be found at Living Coasts, ranging from seahorses, cuttlefish, starfish, stingrays, mud skippers and fiddler crabs to penguins, sea birds and seals. The 30 second commercial, called Treasure Hunt, will appear on radio stations across the region.

Producer Tim Fortune said: “The girls were fun but professional. I am sure they could both have a bright future ahead of them in this field.”

Coral aged 12, has been in school plays and is very confident. She is a big fan of Living Coasts and has been there several times. She is also a prize-winning young photographer. She enjoyed the experience, and said afterwards: “I’d like to do more of this sort of thing!”

Living Coasts, Torquay’s coastal zoo and discovery centre, is a registered charity. For more information go to www.livingcoasts.org.uk or ring (01803) 202470.

The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place.  The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite.  Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.  To learn more and see photos  taken by indigenous children in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, you can visit ninosdelaamazonia.org
