The High Sheriff of Leicestershire Recognizes Twycross Zoo With an Award

Twycross, UK - On behalf of Twycross Zoo, Sally Hogg, Twycross Zoo’s Director of Communications, received a recognition award from the High Sheriff of Leicestershire, David Wyrko, a former Chief Constable. The awards ceremony was held at The Guildhall Leicester and attended by over 50 people. At the ceremony the outgoing Sheriff recognised individuals and organisations and formally handed over the role to the incoming High Sheriff Mr Maurice Thompson.

The award was in recognition for Twycross Zoo’s contribution to the local economy, worldwide animal conservation, education, science and in particular supporting the work of Claudine André at Lola Ya Bonobo sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sally Hogg, Twycross Zoo’s Director of Communications said, “We are extremely proud to accept this award, Twycross Zoo is at the fore front of animal conservation and welfare, through our education team we intend to teach, educate and bring awareness of the many conservation project we are involved in”.

High Sheriffs are appointed annually for a one year term of office; the present High Sheriff of Leicestershire Mr Maurice Thompson, entered office on 27th March 2009. The Office of High Sheriff is at least 1000 years old having its roots in Saxon times before the Norman Conquest.  It is the oldest continuous secular Office under the Crown. The High Sheriff remains The Sovereign’s representative in the County for all matters relating to the Judiciary, and they are responsible for the well-being and protection of Her Majesty’s High Court Judges when on circuit in the County.
