Toledo, OH - Lucas County residents receive free admission to The Toledo Zoo when they arrive on Mondays between 10 a.m. and noon. In honor of National Tourism Week, the Zoo is extending this benefit to non-Lucas County residents as well. On Monday, May 11 all visitors who arrive between 10 a.m. and noon can mention “National Tourism Week” at the admission gate and receive free admission!

National Tourism Week will kick off with a Commissioner’s Conference on Tourism on Monday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Toledo Zoo. Presented by the Greater Toledo Convention & Visitors Bureau, the kick-off event will feature Pete Gerken, President of the Board of Lucas County Commissioners, as keynote speaker. Throughout the day visitors can learn more about the many tourism options that this region has to offer. Exhibitor booths will spotlight area attractions, shopping, dining, recreation and more. In addition, there will be drawings and prizes at participating exhibitors’ booths. Please note that the Zoo’s free admission offer does not apply to school or group rates.

According to July 2008 statistics from the Ohio Department of Development, tourism in Lucas County generated $1.6 billion in sales, $421 million in wages and $208 million in taxes. Tourism also created 19,000 private sector jobs.

The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.
