Chicago, IL - Registration is now open for Lincoln Park Zoo’s annual race for conservation! If you think you’re faster than a speeding cheetah, more powerful than a silverback gorilla, and able to leap tall trees in a single bound – prove it on June 7 during the 27th annual “United Run for the Zoo.” This 10K and 5K USATF-certified chip-timed race is a highlight of the Chicago running calendar. For those in the mood to mosey, there’s also a 5K Fun Walk, and a free Giraffe Gallop for children 10 years and younger.

This event is expected to sell out quickly – how fast can you sign up?

This year, in addition to racing to save imperiled wildlife, participants can go the extra mile by soliciting pledges and raising money to support the zoo’s mission. The more pledges raised, the better the prizes! Participants who raise $100 will be entered to win two United Airlines tickets. Those who raise $1,000 will win a brand new Garmin Running Watch.

Each paid participate will receive a complimentary New Balance Tech Top. Register online at the zoo’s website: www.lpzoo.org/events/run09.html. Registration for the 5K Fun Walk is $20, and the 5K and 10K runs are $30. You can also register and pick up your packets at Lincoln Park Zoo, New Balance Chicago and Starfruit. The “United Run for the Zoo” is sponsored by United Airlines, New Balance Chicago, Saint Joseph Hospital, Lifeway Foods and Starfruit.

Proceeds of the run support the not-for-profit Lincoln Park Zoo’s wildlife conservation efforts.

I think we should move on from having dolphins in captivity now - we all know this isn't good for them.

The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place.  The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite.  Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.  To learn more and see photos  taken by indigenous children in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, you can visit ninosdelaamazonia.org
