Atlantic Beach, NC - Far from tropical beaches or their chilly New Hampshire campus, seven Plymouth State University students opted to spend their spring break volunteering at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.

Part of a school club called Alternative Spring Break, the students and their faculty advisor assisted with multiple projects at the Aquarium.

“These young people came to volunteer at the Aquarium and show their care for the environment,” said Aquarium Volunteer Coordinator Chris Carlin. “Despite the cool weather, the students counted and measured oysters, built a compost fence, planted trees and shrubbery, spread pine straw and fed Aquarium animals.”

The group raised funds and used school-allocated money for the trip.
