Atlantic Beach, NC - Parents and tots explore nature together with stories, crafts, puppets, music and animal encounters during “Toddler Time” at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. Here, Brycen Vrska of Jacksonville works the jaws of an alligator puppet during a recent session of the new program, offered every Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“Toddler Time” is one of several programs free with Aquarium admission or membership. Advance registration is not required for free programs. Visitors also enjoy live dive shows in the 306,000-gallon Living Shipwreck, animal feeding programs and live animal encounters in the morning and afternoon every day. The Aquarium’s three playful river otters frolic in a special exercise and enrichment session every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.

See Programs and Activities on the Aquarium’s website for more about these free programs, and other activities available for a small fee.

The Aquarium is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $8 for ages 18-61, $7 for ages 62 and over and $6 for ages 6-17. The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a magical place.  The flora, fauna, remoteness and beauty are exquisite.  Another interesting aspect is how the indigenous people there live.  To learn more and see photos  taken by indigenous children in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, you can visit ninosdelaamazonia.org
