Amarillo, Texas 79105
USA

The zoo is a 14-acre facility managed by the City of Amarillo and is located in Thompson Park. It currently houses 57 species and exhibits 27 of those species. The remainder of the species are animals utilized in education programs and are not on exhibit. The entire collection is made up of approximately 130 animals from invertebrates, reptiles, birds, native and exotic mammals.

The Amarillo Zoo still continues to operate as a free zoo funded by the City of Amarillo. Although it is a small zoo, it is a pleasant and relaxing facility to enjoy an afternoon and learn about a variety of animals. It is located in beautiful Thompson Park where folks can enjoy a picnic, come to the zoo or go to the amusement park, Wonderland that is located adjacent to the zoo. The zoo is open Tues-Sun 9:30-5:30pm and is closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Donations are certainly welcomed.
