Aquarium of the Bay is a unique nature center dedicated to creating experiences that inspire conservation of the San Francisco Bay and all marine environments. It is the only aquarium featuring exhibitions focused specifically on the rich and diverse aquatic life and distinctive ecosystems of the Bay and its surrounding waters. Our exhibits showcase more than 20,000 sharks, bat rays, octopus and other marine animals from the San Francisco Bay and its surrounding waters, in 300 feet crystal clear tunnels filled with over 700,000 gallons of filtered Bay water. Moving sidewalks convey guests through the tunnels, where the experience is a bit like skin diving without getting wet. We also have touch pools where visitors can touch leopard sharks, bat rays, skates and sea stars. Each day, visitors are treated to special events including shark feedings, dive encounters where they can ask questions of the divers who care for the animals in our tanks and activities geared towards children. In addition, our Behind the Scenes Tour takes visitors on the catwalks above our tanks, introduces them to our "chefs," who provide information on how we feed our animals and provides a sneak peak at our dive operations and laboratory. The aquarium is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and certified as a Green Business by the city of San Francisco. Additional information is available at www.aquariumofthebay.com
