Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation

Nyaru Menteng Project
Palangka Raya, Kalteng 73000
Indonesia

The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation operates the largest primate rescue project in the world, looking after more than 800 rescued orangutans. It is the only organization actively rescuing wild orangutans from certain death in the oil-palm plantations which are replacing their forest habitat. We rescue and rehabilitate ex-captive orangutans with a goal of eventual release in the wild in a protected forest. Wild orangutans are treated for illness and injuries and also released. Those unsuitable for release such as chronically ill orangutans are given lifetime sanctuary at our project. We also look after other native wildlife, and operate the largest sun bear sanctuary in the world. Other species include gibbon, slow loris, tarsier and clouded leopard. We are a non-profit charity.
