We are a 2 acre, lake front center. We are state & federally permitted for rehab of birds, and small mammals. Our facility accepts, raccoons, squirrels, all birds, songbirds to birds of prey and small deer and fawns. We have a large network of other permitted rehabbers who handle other species up to and including large cats, bear and reptiles.
Our facility is currently under some construction and we hope to begin our educational programs here on premise, inbcluding a brief tour of the facility, in the late spring.
Recently we built our care center for critical wildlife and are presently adding finishing touches.
We are non profit, 501 C3 and most definitely accept doantions, monetary and in-kind. Please contact us for a list of current needs.
We usually have around 200-250 animals on premise, altho the winter months are slower, out busy time is March - October. Usually present are raccoons, hand feeding orphan babies to adult, releasables. Hawks and owls of all species and the usual local songbirds, vultures, sandhill cranes, egrets and herons. Occasionally we are lucky enough to be graced with the presence of unusual migratory species and the occasional eagle!
At Sky Harbor, we also have an array of free ranging ducks, geese, turkeys, crows, chicken, a few cats and our personal ( and show off) pet parrots.
We love to show people around, introduce them to our critters and talk about the work we do and the need for its continuance into the next generation. Small group personal tours can be arranged.
Our large network of licensed and talented rehabbers whom we can call upon to take in nearly any species. We don't like to leave any animal without assistance of some sort. We take in ducks, especially the much maligned Muskovey (introduced species) and accept the lowly pigeons and doves as well. Many rehabbers refuse these birds. Many an infant, newborn rat or mouse has been raised here at Sky Harbor and released into the wild. I began working with animals when I acquired my parrots (but grew up on grandparents farm in Ohio). I rescued in the field for a sanctuary near us and from there acquired my own state permit and federal license. From there it progressed to a facility, non profit and 501C3 status. I am the founder and director of the center. We are a small facility making a big difference. It is run by myself and Dave and a hand full of volunteers.
