Australia Exhibit at the Dickerson Park Zoo

After viewing the exhibits of South American animals, guests enter “Australia,” which presently exhibits Red Kangaroos, Emus, Wallabies and Black Swans.

The Outback Corral petting zoo provides guests of all ages the opportunity to feed and touch a variety of domestic and exotic animals in a protected-contact setting.

You might recognize the cackling laugh of the Kookaburras or have the Eclectus Parrots whistle at you.

Contact us by email if you have a specific question or call 417-864-1800 (Hotline  recording).

New zoo Web site launched
A newly redesigned Web site for Dickerson Park Zoo launched in early August. We now offer online purchases or renewals for Friends of the Zoo memberships through Web site (using PayPal’s secure transaction processing). It is still a work-in-progress so check the site frequently for new updates, including an expanded KidZone and online gift shop coming very soon.

Visit www.dickersonparkzoo.org for the latest information on events, education programs and more.

ATTENTION: Road Construction Reminder

If you have traveled through the Interstate 44-MO 13/Kansas Expressway interchange in the past few weeks, you have experienced the traffic delays that are common during construction. To simplify your arrival at the zoo, if you have to come north on Kansas Expressway, we suggest you turn east on Kearney at Kansas and go to Broadway to come north. You’ll end up at Norton Road just east of the zoo – very close to the parking entrance. Other options include coming north across the city via National or Grant Avenues to Norton Road.

Help us spread the word about alternate approaches to the zoo – especially to teachers planning field trips. We have information posted on the zoo’s Web site, as well as a link to MODOT’s Web site with more construction details.

Members Night – May 14

There’s been a delay with the Members Night postcards getting in the mail, so we sent out an e-mail last week with the information. Just a reminder – Please RSVP by Friday to attend next week’s annual Members Night picnic. Gates open at 6 p.m. – Bring your current membership card for entry.

RSVP by e-mail – info@dickersonparkzoo.org or by phone, 417-833-1570.

This will be a special evening as we celebrate milestone birthdays in 2009 for three of our elephants. This is a members-only event, so if you plan to bring a guest and do not have the guest option on your membership, please use one of your one-day admission passes. If you have questions, please call the zoo office. And, as always, the event will go on, rain or shine.

Upcoming Events

May 10 – Mother’s Day. Free admission for mothers all day.

May 14 – Members Night. Evening event for current FOZ members; gates open at 6 p.m.

May 30 – Zoobilee, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
