We're approaching the end of March and there are still no Orang-Utan babies at Paignton. The first of three was apparently due in mid-March so why is there still not the patter of tiny feet in the ape centre?
Well, last night I had the oppurtunity to ask the zoo's curator of mammals and director of operations, Neil Bemment, just that.
From what he said, it would seem that a member of staff was a little over-enthusiastic with the local press and that they could, actually, be due in mid-May rather than April.
So, are all three pregnant? Unfortunately, it's hard to tell as Orang-Utans are pot-bellied at the best of times, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope that May brings better news than April.
