Legends of the Wild – Now Open
The largest expansion in the Akron Zoo’s history opened May 28, 2005. Legend of the Wild includes 16 new exhibits, 20 different species and over 380 total animals. Begin your expedition under a 30-foot waterfall entrance and learn about the many legends that surround these animals. For example, visitors will learn that Andean condors were once thought to bring up the sun every morning. They will also hear the myth once told by the ancient Mayan of how the jaguar got its spots. This new area features lemurs, bats, jaguars, snow leopards, Andean condors, capybara, Sika deer and other exotic animals.
