Giraffe Calf at the Sedgwick County Zoo

Sedgwick County Zoo Welcomes Giraffe Calf into the World

On September 21, a giraffe calf was welcomed into the world by Sedgwick County Zoo staff. Mom and calf are doing fine and are accepting visitors. Just moments after birth the calf was up on all fours yet staying close to Mom. It’s still a little wobbly, but it sure is cute.

Eric Poe and Sherry Renollet-Poe adopted the giraffe herd at Zoobilee 2005 in memory of Sherry’s mother Shirl Renollet. They’ve chosen the name C.J. for the newborn calf, named after their two boys Clint & Jack. The male calf is approximately 6-feet tall and weighs 107 pounds. Now that’s a big boy!
