The Wild Animal Sanctuary is located just 35 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado, on 240 acres of rolling grassland. The Sanctuary has over 180 Lions, Tigers, Bears, Wolves, Leopards, Mountain Lions and other large carnivores that have been rescued from illegal or abusive situations.
The Sanctuary is unique in many ways, as it is the largest and oldest sanctuary for large carnivores in the United States, and is the only one to feature large acreage natural habitats where groups of rescued and rehabilitated carnivores live freely, cohabitating in peace. The sanctuary has African Lion Prides Tiger Families Bear Families and Wolf Packs living in many open habitats ranging from 5 to 25 acres in size. The Sanctuary is open to the public for educational purposes, and visitors can view the animals from special observation decks and platforms that rise high above and cross many areas of the sanctuary. The Sanctuarys Education Center features videos, displays, and other interesting items that help visitors understand the background and history of where its animals were rescued from, and how they were caught up in the Captive Wildlife Crisis that America faces today.
