Black Pine Animal Park is a 501c3 non-profit organization, legally incorporated as Professional Animal Retirement Center (PARC), Inc. Situated on 18 acres of beautiful wooded countryside in northeast Indiana, Black Pine is home to over 80 rescued former "pets" and retired performers representing over 47 species. Residents include tigers, leopards, lions, bobcats, puma, black bear, monkeys, apes, birds, lizards, snakes, camel, llama, goats, pigs, and many more. Animals are housed in zoo-like, natural habitats with accessible pathways and some indoor facilities.
Black Pine Animal Park does not buy, sell, breed or trade animals. The sanctuary receives an average of 150 requests each year to provide permanent refuge to exotic animals in need. These animals are largely products of the exotic pet trade. Some are voluntarily placed by owners while many others are confiscated or abandoned. Due to lmiited funding and resources, only about 3% of all animals seeking refuge are able to be adopted into the sanctuary. Black Pine operates with a paid staff of just one full-time and one part-time employee with the support of over 50 community volunteers and student interns. Applications are accepted year-round for the volunteer and internship programs.
