Summer at Woodland Park Zoo promises a wild, fun adventure for all ages. Experience coastal South America where the birds “fly” underwater! Learn about penguins that aren't from a land of ice, but from a desert by the sea. You might even meet a penguin keeper or Peruvian researcher. Learn how you can help penguins in the wild by making smart seafood choices or donating to our conservation project. There are lots of other fun activities at the zoo: hear stories about your favorite animals from a zookeeper, feed the giraffes, ride the carousel, meet a millipede in Zoomazium, or talk to a cultural interpreter. You'll discover you can “share the habitat” with animals around the world and in your backyard and simple actions you can take every day to help save animals.
***NEW*** Opening May 2: Penguin Exhibit
What’s black and white and wet all over? Woodland Park Zoo’s Humboldt penguins! The tuxedoed birds debut in an all new exhibit that immerses visitors in the desert coasts of Chile and Peru. See the birds preen, porpoise, build nests and squabble over territory in the 17,000-square-foot exhibit. Did you know these black and white birds have now gone green? Sustainable features in the exhibit include a filtration system that will save 3 million gallons of water each year, and a special design to catch all stormwater runoff, preventing the pollution of our local water sources. Free with zoo admission. For more information, visit www.zoo.org.
