Jambo the Chimpanzee was Born at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore

Jambo and Joice
It has been almost 5 months since the arrival of our newest Chimpanzee here at The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Jambo (Swahili for "Hello") was born on January 20th to Joice, our 34 year old dominant chimp. Joice and Jambo are currently with a group of two adult females (Renee and Rustie) and two one year old females (Rozi and Asali). Although it is more common to see Jambo attached to Joice, she is gaining more independence every day and is inching her way up ropes and across the exhibit a little more all the time. It doesn't seem to matter if Jambo is sleeping or climbing to the top, Joice is always attentive to her infant's every need. It has been very rewarding to observe such a great maternal relationship between Joice and Jambo.
