Audubon Zoo's Baby Orangutan Get the OK to Meet the Public This Week

New Orleans, LA - It's a rare opportunity - something visitors haven't experienced in about thirteen years - an adorable (and critically endangered) baby orangutan at Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.
Baby Menari was born at Audubon Zoo on June 10, 2009. Starting on September 26, guests will be able to see her each day between 1pm and 2:30pm in the World of Primates exhibit (pending extreme weather or other unforeseen factors).

Philadelphia, PA - The Philadelphia Zoo welcomes a new addition - Poitou donkeys! The two females joining the Zoo's collection from the Hamilton Rare Breeds Foundation in Vermont are Nike, 6, and Periwinkle, 8. The Poitou donkey is quite unique - at over six feet from hoof to ear, they are among the largest donkeys. Additionally, they are known for their long, dreadlocked coats.

The Cheetah Foundation Selects Tanganyika Wildlife Park as a Primary Cheetah Breeding Facility

Cutout Characters Warn Virginia Zoo's Visitors Not to Smoke

Norfolk, VA - The Virginia Zoo will go smoke free today, September 3, and has brought on some special, new staff members to help spread the word. "They are two dimensional," notes executive director Greg Bockheim, "but are vibrant additions to the Zoo staff, and we are certain that they will be effective in spreading the word of the Zoo's no smoking policy in a friendly way." The flat, new staff members are new signs drawn in the likeness of an actual zookeeper. These fun, life-size "zookeeper cutouts" will make smoke free signage friendly and visible.

Oregon Zoo's three African Lions Have Moved into Their New Enclosure

Portland, OR - Home, sweet home! The Oregon Zoo's three African lions have moved into their new enclosure at the highly anticipated Predators of the Serengeti exhibit, opening to the public on Sept. 12.
One of the most ambitious endeavors in the zoo's history, the nearly 2.5-acre exhibit provides expansive naturalistic environments for a variety of African predators, including cheetahs, African wild dogs and red-billed hornbills.
