Another Great White Shark Goes on Display at Monterey Bay Aquarium

Monterey, CA - For the fifth time, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has placed a young great white shark on exhibit, bringing her from Malibu to Monterey this afternoon (Wednesday, August 26) just 14 days after she was collected by aquarium staff off the southern California coast near Malibu.

Monterey Bay Aquarium remains the only institution in the world to exhibit a white shark for more than 16 days, and has documented the successful return to the wild of each animal kept on exhibit.

Merlin Entertainments Group Plans to Build a $15 Million Sea Life Aquarium in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ - Global leisure giant Merlin Entertainments Group is planning to build a $15 million Sea Life™ Aquarium at Phoenix's Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe. Once approved by the City of Tempe, this will only be the second Sea Life Aquarium in the United States joining SEA LIFE™ Carlsbad, California which opened in August 2008 adjacent to LEGOLAND® California. The Phoenix Sea Life Aquarium is set to open late spring 2010.

Gamer, who currently resides in Eugene, Oregon, will begin his new position September 8. Gamer brings approximately 25 years of leadership experience with statewide, national and international nonprofit organizations. This includes serving as President and CEO of Holt International Children's Services, based in Eugene, Oregon. He has lived and worked also in Portland, New York City, and in a number of countries outside of the United States.

Manteo, NC - Lauran Jozik, aquarist at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, saw a message on her Facebook page from one of her friends that said, "Does anyone work with things that deal with the ocean?" The question was posed by Ellen Shepherd, a teacher at Midland Elementary School, in Elkins, West Virginia. Jozik responded that she worked at the Aquarium, would that work? Shepherd replied yes, and this is the rest of the story.

It Took 10 Years to Produce These Asian Lion Cubs at London Zoo

London, UK - For the first time in 10 years two Asian lion cubs have been born at ZSL London Zoo.

The furry youngsters will be making a public appearance in their outside paddock this Thursday.

The 10-week-old male and female lions are the first cubs to be born to the Zoo's very own love-cats Abi, ten, and Lucifer, six.

Hogle Zoo's Elephant Gives Birth to a Baby Girl

Salt Lake City, UT - After a 22-month pregnancy, Hogle Zoo African elephant, Christie, has finally given birth to a female calf August 10, 2009. This is the first baby born to 23-year-old Christie. Interview opportunities with key staff will be available today only at 3 pm. It is not yet determined when Christie and her calf will be on exhibit to the public.

Next Year You Will Get to See a Cool Polar Bear Exhibit at Kansas City Zoo

Kansas City, MO - On Friday, August 7 at 10 a.m. the Kansas City Zoo broke ground on a $10 million Polar Bear project thanks to the Kansas City, Missouri voters who passed a bond package in 2004 to bring these large white bears back to their city.

Recreated glaciers, a large sandbox and open spaces along the banks create a Polar Bear Environment of Fun for digging, plunging and napping.

The Hyenas are Laughing in the New Bronx Zoo Exhibit

Salt Lake City, UT - It's a little early for packages from Santa, but a baby giraffe was delivered Thursday July 30 at Utah's Hogle Zoo.

The baby giraffe, a male, was born to Hogle Zoo giraffes Kipenzi (six-years-old) and Riley (six-years-old). First-time mother Kipenzi had the baby outdoors in the yard which she shares with another female giraffe.
