Out With Gas and In With Solar For the Golf Cart Races at Detroit Zoo

Royal Oak, MI - The Detroit Zoological Society continues on the road to "green" by replacing its gas-powered golf carts with solar/electric hybrid carts.
The 40 golf carts are used by the Detroit Zoo's animal, maintenance, landscaping, park safety, education, events, marketing, and public relations staffs to transport equipment and people around the 125-acre Zoo.

A Bald Eagle Now Calls Hershey's ZooAmerica Wildlife Park Home

Hershey, PA - ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park has added new additions to three of its five geographic regions this July, including a young bald eagle, two snowy owls, two beaded lizards and numerous crabs.
ZooAmerica acquired a female bald eagle from Juniata County in Pennsylvania, about 60 miles away from Hershey, where she was found with a wing injury.

South Africa's National Zoo Sponsoring Cheetah Chasing Dogs

Pretoria, South Africa - The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa has adopted an Anatolian shepherd in support of the Cheetah Outreach Trust (CCF). The National Zoo is the first zoological gardens in the country to lend its support to this project. The aim of the project is for partners to assist with the promotion of cheetah conservation and biodiversity on South African farms. The Anatolian shepherds serve as guard dogs on these farms to keep free-ranging cheetahs from hunting farm animals, thus prolonging the cheetah's fragile existence.

On July 4th, the Fourth Baby Giraffe Was Born at Tanganyika Wildlife Park

Goddard, KS - Tanganyika Wildlife Park put their fourth baby giraffe on display for the public on July 4th. This is the fourth giraffe to be born at Tanganyika in 8 months. Jim Fouts, the Wildlife Park Director, is extremely proud of their success and stated, "We continue to demonstrate our focus on conversation through quality breeding programs of rare and endangered species." According to the International Species Information System online, Tanganyika Wildlife Park has had more baby reticulated giraffes born in the United States than any other facility.

Cincinnati Zoo's New Malayan Tiger Cubs Come Out To Play
