Breakfast with the Sharks will kick off Shark Week, allowing visitors to enter the Aquarium before it opens to the public and enjoy a hearty breakfast while learning more about sharks.

Strange but True - Seahorse Dad Gives Birth at NZ Marine Studies Centre & Westpac Aquarium

Portobello, New Zealand - There was a special event at the Aquarium in Portobello this morning - one of our seahorse dads gave birth! The event was first spotted by a volunteer from Canada who is helping at the Marine Laboratory and Aquarium for 6 weeks, and was highly delighted to be present at the birth!

Two Children Win Radio Commercial Slots for Living Coasts Aquarium

Torquay, UK - Two local children have taken starring roles in a radio commercial for a local conservation charity after winning a competition.

Living Coasts in Torquay ran the competition at this year's Devon County Show. Entrants were recorded at the Heart FM tent. The prize was a chance to record the charity's new summer radio commercial.

Sandbar Sharks are in the Water at Georgia Aquarium

Atlanta, GA - Georgia Aquarium is excited to announce the arrival of four new sandbar sharks (Carcharinas plumbeus) into the Ocean Voyager gallery built by The Home Depot. These sharks are commonly found in the waters surrounding Florida. The most abundant shark in the western Atlantic, sandbar sharks are most distinguishable by their very high first dorsal fin. Adults can reach up to 7 feet (2.1 m) in length and weigh 100 to 200 lbs. (45 to 90 kg). This shark is a bottom-dwelling, coastal, shallow water shark that is widespread in tropical and warm temperate waters worldwide.

Baby Beluga Whale and Mom Rejoined Adults at Vancouver Aquarium

Vancouver, Canada - Following the birth at 3:39pm on June 7 of a new beluga calf, the Vancouver Aquarium's marine mammal care and veterinary teams are pleased to report that bonding between mother Aurora and her new baby is strong.

Ongoing observation of Mom and baby during the first 18 hours showed continued positive behaviours of strong interaction, with the calf continuing to swim alongside and be guided by mother Aurora. Nursing is underway and all signs to date are showing good development and interaction.

This Long Island Game Farm Educator Has a Doctorate in Lemurs

Manorville, NY - The Long Island Game Farm has announced that April M. Ruiz, who will start conducting lectures and shows at the Long Island Game Farm this summer, has completed and successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, entitled "Social information gathering in lemurs."

A 2001 graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School, Dr. Ruiz went on to pursue her undergraduate degree at Yale University, where she studied the behavior and cognition of several primate species.

Three Cute Clouded Leopard Cubs Born at Nashville Zoo

Nashville, TN - Jing Jai, a rare clouded leopard at Nashville Zoo, gave birth to three genetically valuable cubs on May 30 at 3 p.m. Weighing about a half of a pound each, the two male and one female cubs are all healthy and being hand-raised by zoo keepers. Jing Jai and her mate Arun are both doing fine in their off-exhibit breeding facility.
