Shoprite Executives Caught Feeding The Animals!

Mystic PartnersMystic Aquarium

Mystic, CT - Thanks to ShopRite in New London, the fish and invertebrates at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration are enjoying a diverse diet of fruit and vegetables at a significantly lower cost than last year. These savings are a result of a unique partnership recently formed between the aquarium and ShopRite that benefits both parties as well as the animals and the environment.

Each week, aquarium staffers receive 50 to 75 pounds of "culled" produce from ShopRite for its resident fish and invertebrates, who live on a diet consisting primarily of fruits and vegetables.

FUN STUFF

Grow a small backyard or balcony butterfly garden.

Now that the weather is improving and spring is here, this is an easy and fun project for everyone.

1. For the balcony or patio:
Buy several large flower pots of different sizes that can be clustered together.
Use your decorating intuition.

Buy enough potting soil to fill the pots.

For the garden:
Dedicate a spot for the garden.

Prepare the soil.

2. Go to your local plant store. Every region has different growing varieties of flowering plants. Ask for advice. Some basis tips are:
- Use at least 4 different flowering varieties to make up your garden.
- Make sure red is one of your colors as it will draw in an occasional hummingbird.
- Buy plants as close to bloom as possible.
- Plant as densely as possible. You want as many blossoms as possible blooming simultaneously. If the roots can not grow out, they will grow down.

3. Water frequently.

4. Try photographing the butterflies up close.

Remember: Pollinating bees are not wasps and will not bother you as you sit and watch them do their important work.

Jokes:

Gorilla – king of the jungle?
A gorilla was walking through the jungle when he came across a deer eating grass in a clearing.
The gorilla roared, "Who is the king of the jungle?"
The deer replied, "Oh, you are, Master."

The gorilla walked off pleased. Soon he came across a zebra drinking at a water hole.
The gorilla roared, "Who is the king of the jungle?"
The zebra replied, "Oh, you are, Master"

The gorilla walked off pleased. Then he came across an elephant.
The gorilla roared, "Who is the king of the jungle?"
The elephant threw the gorilla across a tree and jumped on him.
The gorilla scraped himself up off the ground and said, "Okay, okay, there's no need to get mad just because you don't know the answer."
