Powell, OH - The much anticipated birth of an
Asian elephant calf at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium occurred on March
27 at approximately 2:35 p.m. after a 655 day gestation period. The male
calf stood within minutes. Phoebe's health was monitored
throughout her pregnancy including an exercise regimen, regular
ultrasounds and blood draws. On Wednesday her progesterone levels
dropped significantly indicating the onset of the birthing process.
Phoebe and her calf will continue to be observed around the clock for

£2,000 to Spend On Their Animals | Twycross Zoo Twycross,
UK -Twycross Zoo is investing £100,000.00 in animal
welfare, with a new initiative of projects instigated by the keepers.
Each keeper has been allocated £2000.00 to use on a project that
will focus on environmental enrichment or will improve our already high
standard of husbandry and animal welfare. Keepers will have two buddies
who will assist with ideas on how the money can be spent, help to source
high quality materials and prepare budgets for the various projects.

celebrated his second birthday today, March 21, in front of a large
crowd gathered around Louisville Zoo's elephant yard to commemorate the

Akron Zoo Will Exhibit the Easter Bunny Akron Zoo Akron, OH - The Akron Zoo will
hold their annual Breakfast with the Bunny event on April 4, 5, and 11,
2009 from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. The event includes breakfast, a visit from
the Bunny and an outdoor egg hunt. Reservations are required and space
is limited. Breakfast with the Bunny is held in the zoo's

Photos from the Bronx Zoo Bronx Zoo Bronx, NY - The Matschie's tree
kangaroo joey is now really exploring his JungleWorld home at the
Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo. Mom, Arboroo, is always
nearby to keep on eye on the little one. This species is known to have
two birthdays: the youngster was "officially" born on July 4 and in an
embryonic state crawled back into mom's pouch to continue developing;
and then another celebration is at 39-41 weeks when the joey is mature
enough to brave being outside in the real world to explore and test its

Colobus, Howler, and Proboscis Monkey Babies at Singapore Zoo Singapore Zoo Singapore - There is now new meaning to the
cheeky phrase "monkeying around". Primates at Singapore Zoo certainly
have been doing a lot of that with four recent births; one each of the
colobus and black howler monkeys and two proboscis monkeys. These births
mark the first for the colobus after a hiatus of about 12 years, fifth
for the black howler, and sixteenth and seventeenth for the proboscis

Nichols School Students Build Animal Enrichment Toys for the
Buffalo Zoo Buffalo Zoo Buffalo,
NY - Nichols School fifth-graders extended science variables
experiments beyond the classroom, by testing enrichment toys that they
made for animals at the Buffalo Zoo. This occurred on March 12, when
students examined behaviors of Patty the blue and gold macaw, snow

Zoo Farm Wraxall, UK - The owners of Noah's Ark Zoo Farm
will be investing during the recession in a £200,000 Tiger
enclosure. After a two year negotiation with North Somerset Council the
new Tiger enclosure has now been considered and accepted by the council.
Bengal Tigers, which are planned to arrive for the summer
of 2009, will be housed in a modern enclosure using innovative designs
to allow visitors to be almost in arms reach of the magnificent

Woodland Park Zoo's Fecal Fest Being Cancelled Woodland Park Zoo Seattle, WA - March marks the
time of year when garden enthusiasts anticipate getting their supply of
