The Birdman of Las Vegas Will Perform at Blank Park Zoo This Summer

Des Moines, IA - For the first time in the state, Red Pandas, a rare Mauritius bird, some new monkeys, an exotic bird show from Las Vegas, and a new throne fit for a king come to Iowa's Blank Park Zoo this summer. Even the "fleeing flamingo", which flew the zoo coop last fall, is sticking around for this season's fun.
"This will be the summer all Iowans can enjoy world wide recreation at home," says Kevin Drees, Director of Animal Care.

Spring Forward Fun and Activities at Franklin Park Zoo

Boston, MA - Year of the Frog may be over, but the amphibian crisis is not. Turn your clock ahead and come learn how you can be a friend to frogs through fun, games, and activities. At Franklin Park Zoo, celebrate our amphibian friends, as well as the start of spring, with some froggy fun in a special education program! The Leap into Spring program will be held from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. for children ages 3 to 4, and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. for children ages 8 to 10. The additional cost for this event is $8 for members and $10 for non-members (cost includes adult/child pair for the early class). To register, call 617-989-3742. At Stone Zoo, stop by the Animal Discovery Center between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to learn about amphibians. There is no cost for the Stone Zoo program.

The Butterflies Are Flying Free at Montréal Insectarium

This year, meet some butterflies of the Americas (new theme) and admire winged wonders of all kinds from Quebec and around the world. "Butterflies Go Free" is a total immersion in the complex and fascinating world of butterflies. Roam through the Botanical Garden's Main Exhibition Greenhouse and learn more about these creatures' life cycles and ecological roles and the 'fair-trade' side of this event. "We could sum it up as an urban eco-tourism experience", says Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Director of Montréal's Nature Museums.

Woodland Park Zoo Is Throwing A Penguin Party May 2nd

Some Soft Meows from Jacksonville Zoo's New Baby Jaguar

Jacksonville, FL - This past New Year's Day, there was cause for more celebration than usual for some management and staff at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. At 8:30 p.m. on January 1, 2009, a jaguar cub was born to the Zoo's four and one-half year old female jaguar named Zassi, originally from Guyana, and father, Tuco, a three and one-half year old male that came from the Houston Zoo. The cub's sex is not yet known. It was the first jaguar born in captivity nationwide in 2009, and the first born at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens since April 1981. Mother and cub are healthy and doing well together.

Looking For Old Photos of Virginia Zoo Like the Original Elephant House

Norfolk, VA - The Virginia Zoo is collecting photographs that document its 100 plus year history and is asking the community to share old pictures of the chimpanzees, sea lion, hippopotamus, and more.
The photographs will be used as part of an exhibit to spotlight the Zoo's history, including displaying Chuck and Judy's old chimp exhibit.
