Marineland's Dolphin Nellie Gets a Fish Cake for Her 56th Birthday

dolphin cakeMarineland

St. Augustine, FL - Nellie, the world's oldest dolphin in human care, continues to surprise her caregivers, friends and fans as she approaches her 56th birthday. As the 9th animal listed in the North American Bottlenose Dolphin Studbook, Nellie has amazed even those closest to her with her good health and resilience at this stage of life. Daughter of Happy and Susie, Nellie was born at Marineland on February 27th, 1953. Having already lived more than twice the average lifespan of a female Atlantic Bottlenose dolphin in the wild, Nellie continues to eat well, socialize with her peers, interact with staff and the occasional guest, and play with enrichment devices daily. Curator Kevin Roberts states, "We all need to be amazed at Nellie's longevity. As we celebrate this occasion each year, we are ecstatic and hope to celebrate many more."

Aardvark Jokes:

Taking an Elephant to the Zoo
Why shouldn't you take an elephant to the zoo?
Because he'd rather go to the movies!

Elephant Companion
Zookeeper goes to the pet store to find an animal to keep his solitary elephant company. He asks the shopkeeper "Can this parrot talk?"

The shopkeeper replied "Yes, it repeats everything it hears."

The zookeeper thinks this is the perfect solution and the parrot will soon be mimicking the elephant.

However, after a few days, he returns the parrot to the pet shop and confronts the shopkeeper. "This parrot cannot speak at all!! You said it repeats whatever it hears."

The shopkeeper replies "I know! This is because it is deaf!!!"

Tree Climbing Turtle
A baby turtle was standing at the bottom of a large tree and with a deep sigh, started to climb. About an hour later, he reached a very high branch and walked along to the end. He turned and spread all four flippers and launched himself off the branch. On landing at the bottom in a pile of soft, dead leaves, he shook himself off, walked back to the bottom of the tree and with a sigh started to climb.

About an hour later, he again reached the very high branch, walked along, turned, spread his flippers and flung himself off the branch. Again, he landed on the bottom, shook himself off, went to the bottom of the tree, sighed and started climbing.

Watching these proceedings from the end of the branch were two little birds. Mummy bird turned to Daddy bird and said, "Don't you think it's time we told him he was adopted?"
